A Good Start to Phonics
An introduction to Letters and Sounds Phase 1
Wimborne Teaching School is pleased to offer a half day course to develop pre-school and nursery colleagues’ knowledge and understanding of Early Phonics. Early Phonics skills are essential building blocks in preparing children for school. The course will provide an overview of these early phonic skills with many practical and fun activities to use back in settings.
To become familiar with Phase One Letters and Sounds materials including practical ideas to use back in settings.
To develop a clear understanding of the importance of language rich communication friendly spaces.
To have a thorough understanding of Aspect 7 oral blending and segmenting.
Who should attend
All Pre-School and Nursery Practitioners including room leaders and managers.
Jo is Early Years and Phonics Specialist Leader in Education for Wimborne Teaching School. She is currently the Early Years Lead, Deputy Head of School, Pupil Premium Reviewer and a Reception teacher at St. John’s First School in Wimborne.
Jo has over 20 years experience of working in Early Years settings and during this time has been a Deputy Head of School and Lead Teacher specialising in Phonics and English in Bournemouth, Dorset and Hampshire. She has provided training and school to school support in schools and pre-schools.
Currently working at Heatherlands Primary School in Poole as an Early Years Leader, Specialist Leader in Education, Pupil Premium reviewer and a County Profile Moderator.
Kate has worked in Early Years education for nearly 20 years and has previously been an Early Years Advisory Teacher for Wiltshire Council specialising in writing and delivering training, Moderation, Quality Assurance and supporting Early Years provision in Schools and Pre-schools.
The cost per delegate will be £25 which includes ½ a day of training plus refreshments and handouts.
