Wimborne Teaching School togetherAmbitions Teaching School and Linwood Teaching School,  are delighted to offer provision for NQTs from the start of each academic year.  As National Teaching Schools we have become Appropriate Bodies to validate NQTs and have taken the opportunity to develop an exciting and novel package to support NQTs during their first year of teaching. The cost of this provision for 17-18 is being finalised, please do check back to this page for updated information.

Your NQTs will benefit from the network of schools offered jointly by Wimborne, Ambitions and Linwood Teaching Schools, encompassing the full range of primary, secondary, infant, junior, first, middle, and upper schools, with mainstream and special provision across the three authorities of Poole, Dorset and Bournemouth.

The training package we offer emphasises a very practical approach, with a focus on training for teachers by teachers.  Our aim is to support schools and academies in ensuring that NQTs focus on quality first teaching from the start of their NQT year and strive for outstanding by the end of the first term.

With that focus in mind, the first term offers a blend of twilight training, conferences, in school guided observations with a mentor and practical, in class demonstrations of techniques from specialist leaders of education.  We draw on the expertise of National Leaders of Education for aspects of professional practice such as communication with parents and colleagues, conduct and attitude. Our NLEs also cover practical teaching issues including Behaviours for Learning.

Using our outstanding teachers and leaders, we will support and train your NQTs to develop their understanding of AfL, DSEN and the use of data to support planning and promote progress, to name but a few.

To support your Mentors and NQT co-ordinators we offer a Mentor Accreditation of Teacher Tutors course in partnership with the University of Winchester. This course offers excellent CPD for your staff and an opportunity to gain credits towards a Masters degree if they so choose.

To ensure you as a school are fully supported, regular meetings will be arranged with you to check progress of your NQT against the National Standards and Quality Assurance visits will be made.  If at any point there are concerns regarding the development of your NQT, support will be offered from either an outstanding teacher or an SLE who will work alongside your member of staff.
